Introduction to Crafting

Introduction to Crafting edit

Adventurers commonly acquire powerful weapons, armor and equipment by claiming their just reward for defeating treacherous opponents and completing dangerous quests. However, another completely valid—and at times much less dangerous—method is to simply create them yourself through crafting. Through this process many different kinds of items can be created, many of which are not available for purchase from NPC vendors.

The base process involves learning a particular form of crafting, of which there are six in Aion: weaponsmithing, armorsmithing, handicrafting, tailoring, alchemy, and cooking. You can learn all six crafting professions, but you can be an Expert in only two.

Any item that can be crafted is actually composed of several individual components, or materials. You can either learn which materials you need for a particular item automatically or via purchase of the design. Generally these materials must be purchased from vendors or from other players, gathered out in the wild (via collection or extraction), crafted already, or morphed. Not everything can be crafted, however.

As you craft items you build up crafting level in that particular field. The higher the level, the better the items you can learn and craft. The Work Order, a specific type of quest, is also available to help you build up your crafting level. Note however that the only places where you can craft items are within the crafting halls of the capital cities (Pandaemonium and Sanctum).

Crafting Professions

Crafting Professions edit

WeaponsmithingWith this ability you can create many forms of melee weapons, including swords, Daggers, Polearms, Swords, Greatswords, and Maces. Also includes the ability to work with some metals.
ArmorsmithingThe ability to create all types of Chain Armor and Plate Armor, as well as helmets and crafting materials made from metal.
HandicraftingThis allows you to create Staves and Bows (generally things made of wood), plus a variety of accessories such as Necklaces, Earrings, and Rings.
TailoringThis allows you to make Cloth Armor, Leather Armor, and Belts.
AlchemyUnfortunately this isn’t the art of turning lead into gold (not yet anyway), but instead the art of making magical items: Orbs, Spellbooks, Potions, and Scrolls.
CookingAdventurers live on their stomach, and with Cooking you can feed them nicely. Of course, Food and Drink isn’t just nutritional, but can quickly restore health and mana as well as give other abilities a temporary boost.

Crafting Process

Crafting Process edit

1. Learn the Crafting Profession:  For a fee, you acquire a Crafting Profession from the Master in the capital city.

2. Learn the Design: Learn a crafting Design that instructs you how to make an item.

3. Collect the Materials: Collect the Materials that you need, based on the Design.

4. Start crafting with a Crafting Station in the appropriate Workshop: Click the corresponding Crafting Station in the Master’s Workshop, then begin crafting items.

5. Success! If successful, the crafted item will be placed in your Inventory. In the case of Work Orders, you will be given credit for crafting that item.

Success and Failure

When your crafting attempt is successful, you obtain the item, and your Expertise Point experience increases (the experience value is hidden from the player). Repeated crafting raises your skill or Expertise Point. When you Expertise Points increase, you can make new and better items--and the chance of success improves, as well.

Item crafting is not always successful. A crafting attempt can fail, and when it does, all the materials disappear. Even if the attempt fails, you still get a small amount of Expertise Point experience.

Whether your crafting attempts succeed or fail depends on a little luck and how many Expertise Points you have. The higher your Expertise Points, the better your success rate. To reduce the number of failures, you should start with cheap items to increase your Expertise Points, then move on to the next item once you are about 10 Expertise Points above the required points of the recipe.

There is a chance that you’ll create a Rare item when you craft (especially items that are not merely materials for further crafting). These items are better than regular crafted items and will sell for much more on the market.

Learning to Craft

Learning to Craft edit

To start crafting, you must pay a fee to the Crafting Profession Master. Crafting Masters are located in the Capitol Cities:

Asmodae: Temple of Artisans, Pandaemonium.

Elysea: Artisans Hall, Sanctum

There are a total of six Masters, one for each skill, and all of the Crafting Professions can be learned if you desire. However, Mastery can only be achieved in 2.

Pick a profession and go talk with the Master. You will see a menu  where you will need to Learn the profession, take work orders to increase skill, and take Quests (you will receive one when you start a profession and receive others as you increase in level. Quests, however, do not occur very frequently).

Learn the Design

Learn the Design edit

After you acquire a Crafting Profession, the next step is to learn the Design that lists the necessary materials to make the item. Each design lists the materials required.  Once you collect the materials, you can begin working at the appropriate Crafting Station.

When you first learn a Crafting Profession, you’ll get some basic designs.  Quest rewards, fallen enemies, and merchants have other designs for you to discover.

Collecting the Materials

Collecting the Materials edit

Of course, to craft an item, you must first collect the materials. The Gathering skills (collecting and extracting), fallen enemies, and certain merchants are all sources for materials.  Sometimes you must first craft one item, then use it as a material for the next item you’re crafting.

Crafting in the Workshop edit

To begin crafting, double-click (or right-click) on the Crafting Station in the Master’s Workshop (this is the only place where you can craft).  Each Workshop has a different Crafting Station--one for each profession.

Structure of Tool Crafting Window

1. Expertise Points required to craft the item
2. Design name
3. Number of items you have the materials to craft
4. Your current Expertise Points in relation to the crafting tier

5. The Product or output item you will receive

6. Materials necessary to craft the item -- Number you have / Number Required

7. Only show designs that you have the materials to make
8. Create All.  When you press this button, you craft as many items as possible with the materials you have.
9. Specify how many of an item you want to make and click Craft

10. Craft/Stop -- Click Craft to start crafting and Stop to halt crafting after you’ve finished the current item.

Crafting Mastery

Crafting Mastery edit

The higher the level you reach in Crafting, the higher the level and quality becomes of the items you can produce. The different levels available are mentioned earlier and you must complete Quests available through each Crafting Master in order to the next Skill Tier.

Quality300 to 399460,000 kinah
Expert400 to 450Reach level 29 to obtain Expert Quests from your Crafting Master. You won’t have to pay kinah to reach this level.

- Crafting Mastery: In order to Master a Crafting Profession, you will need to take the Expert Test for your professions and reach level 5, which allows you to max out your crafting skill at 449.

- You can Master 2 Crafting Professions: After you have mastered a profession and maxed it out to 449, you can talk to the other crafting master that you would like to become a Master in. You can then take the Expert Test for the second profession to reach level 5 and max the second craft out at 449.

NOTE: There will NOT be a "Quest Arrow" displayed when Expert Quests become available, as they are level 30 Quests. You can still talk to the Crafting NPCs and accept the Quests to continue with Master.
